Welcome to my blog and this post.So today I am going to make you aware about computer viruses that how are the created , what are their purposes and some events in past which prove the power of computer viruses.This post is only to make you aware about computer viruses and not to promote them for illegal purposes , you have to make sure that you are not misusing this information.So lets begin...
WHAT IS A VIRUS..
So basically computer virus is a piece of code which is written by a person for a particular purpose or target.They are basically programs which affect you computer or computer operated machine , it may have cause different problems in your pc like your pc may slow down , or unwanted files may be created in your machine , or your files may get deleted and many more problems which can be caused due to a computer virus.These virus can also be used by hackers to hack their victims pc or mobiles.They generated these viruses and transfer them to their victim's mahine and the moment these virus files are opened the hacker gets the access of you pc or any other mahine.They can then control your pc , can delete your files , transter them to their pc or anything else , means they own your computer.There are many more things which can be done by the use of viruses.The following events in the past will describe the power of computer viruses...
SOME UNFORGETABLE EVENTS ..
It was in August 14 2003 there was the largest Blackout in North America.All the people in the country had to suffer from power off , all the electrical appliances were useless , people were not able to come out from elevators , telephone systems , transportation system were down all the major infrastructure were useless.
The government pridicted the reason to be overgrown trees on the power plants but the main reason was different from the published reason.
Before 3 days of the blackout someone in the country wrote the most powerful computer virus ever written in the history.It was kown that who had written but the virus was identified and the name of the virus was "mblast.exe".It was the first time that a computer virus had an impact on the physical world , outside the computer.All the main transportation system were down.And three days later it was given the title of the US Blackout.
Unlike other viruses which make your computer behave strangely and they travel through other computer programmes , blaster didn't needed any programme to travel through internet it can travel through itself.Other viruses required that the programme through which they had arrived had to be opened up to activate the virus they cannot activate through their own but blaster was of different kind it was self activating , means that you don not need to open up that virus you can get infected only by conecting to the net.Means that anything connected to the net will get infected , therefore all the major infrastructure got infected to this virus.
After 9 months from blackout the official report from the gov. came out which stated that blaster did not played any role in causing such a larger shutdown.But many it pesons were un convinced.
So is it safe to connect the critical infrastructure to the internet , I think it is not because these are run by the normal pc which you use at home might be windows based pc and if a virus which infects widows then they might get affected , so it is not safe to connect these to the internet , because these may have a huge effect on the real world.
THERE WAS ANOTHER EVENT WHICH OCCURRED DUE TO COMPUTER VIRUS ON THE INTERNET..
In feb 2000 there was a boy named Mafia boy who was a renowned hacker crashed huge websites on the internet.Huge websites like Yahoo ,Amazon , Dell found themselves at the mercy of a 15 year old guy who was high school student from montreal .At the age of 12 he was already a reknowned hacker.At 15 he was asked to join the most powerful online hackers group named TNT PHORCE.He was the newest member of the group therefore he wanted to show off his skills in front of the group members therfore he prepared an online weapon or a computer virus to destroy the rival hackers group.
But before he attack his rivals he wanted to check his weapon , he chooses a target , Yahoo.The biggest , busiest site at that time on the net.On 7 feb 2000 he prepares his weapon and puts it on the timer and leaves for his clasroom.After returnng from class he saw his computer screen , the results were amazing , Yahoo was still down.He was very curious to know that what more he can do with that weapon.
He chooses another target Dell , CNN , Amazon all the multi billion companies were down.The attack wasa denial of servers attack means that whenever we access a website we send a request to that side computers and then we get the grant to access the website.
What mafia boy did that was he hacked all the computers from the us universities and inter connected them creating a band of hundreds of computers and then he sent a request to yahoo computers from all the computers at the same time which crashed yahoo computers.
The damage caused by him was estimated as to be 1.2 billion dollars.He was arrested and after he was released he said that he can repeat the attack any time he wanted.
So from the above two incidents we can estimate that how much damage can a computer virus cause.Therefore we should not underestimate the power of computer virus because these can cause such a great impact the physical as well as virtual world.
CREATION OF VIRUS..
Mainly viruses are created by writting a code in a text editor like notepad or any other.But to write virus you should know programming because if you are not aware about what is the virus going to do then the consequences might be dangerous , as you dont know what amount of damage will the virus going to cause therefore you should prepare well before releasing a virus.
Another way in which you can create virus to create using kali linux basically you can create an infected file to hack others computers by tranfering that file to your victim , it creates a backdoor in that system from where you can download all the system files of the victim.
